The EAA Young Eagles program was launching in 1992 to give interested young
people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation
airplane. The flights are offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of
EAA member volunteers. For a full description of the Young Eagles program,
Young Eagles Flight Plan is a set of steps that provide great opportunities
for Young Eagles to expand their knowledge of aviation and to progress
towards a pilot certificate.
Step 1: Young Eagles Flight Free first flight to
start your aviation journey. Ever wondered what your neighborhood
looks like from the sky? Or maybe you’re curious how airplanes even work.
You might even dream of being a pilot. If you’re nodding you’re head
“yes” and are between the ages of 8 and 17, then there are thousands of
EAA member volunteer pilots who would love
to take you on a free Young Eagles flight. That’s right –
a free flight! EAA Chapter 2 provides
Young Eagle flights at Smith Field several times each year.

Step 2: EAA
Student Membership The tools you need to reach your aviation
dreams After your Young Eagles Flight, you should have received an
official Young Eagles logbook from your pilot. The logbook has a code
just for you to activate your EAA Student Membership. Don’t have the logbook
or access code? Just answer a few questions and you can still
sign up for your free benefits. The registration form that you completed
will be sent to Young Eagles office to be entered into the World’s
Largest Log Book. You’ll need to wait for a few days for this to happen
before you will have access to the online pilot’s course. Student
membership is full of exciting opportunities just for you – EAA Sport
Aviation Magazine online, E-newsletters, Members only website, Academy of
Model Aeronautics Student Membership, Free Admission to 300+ Science and
Technology Museums and more.
Step 3: Sporty’s Complete Flight
Training Course Free ground school to prepare you for flight
training It’s time to move from the right seat to the left seat. EAA
and Sporty’s Pilot Shop have teamed up to offer Sporty’s Complete Flight
Training Course – a $215 value – offered for free! This online course is
designed to take you all the way through the process of passing the FAA written exam (required test to
earn your private pilot certificate) and more. It’s a great way to begin
an aviation education. Exciting free benefits await those Young Eagles who
complete the Sporty's course, including a free first flight lesson, FAA
written test reimbursement, flight training scholarships, and more.
Step 4: Your First Flight Lesson A free lesson that
puts you at the controls. When you complete Part 1 (Recreational
Pilot Course) of the Sporty’s program, you qualify for a free flight lesson
voucher at a flight school of your choice. This step is easy if you are
signed up for the Sporty’s course. You will be contacted as soon as you qualify for your free
lesson. This is valued at $120 but if you meet a few qualifications, it’s
yours, free!
Step 5: Flight Training Scholarships Find ways to support your aviation journey. Because
you’re an EAA Student Member, you have access to flight training and college
scholarships through EAA. These scholarships are underwritten by donors
who want to help you achieve your dream and become a pilot. In addition to
our flight training and Air
Academy scholarships, our annual college scholarships help outstanding
students, who demonstrate financial need, to accomplish their aviation
goals.
