A Sport Pilot certificate is a simple, scaled down pilot's license. It was created to allow
pilots to fly for recreational purposes more affordably. Sport pilots are limited to flying
Light Sport aircraft which are smaller, lighter and have less power than most general aviation aircraft.

Prerequisites
At least 17 years of age when finished with training.
A valid state driver's license.
Ability to read, speak, write and understand English.
Be able to affirm general good health and not using substances or
medications that impede judgment, cognition, or motor skills.
Requirements
A minimum of 20 hours of total flight time to include:
15 hours dual instruction
5 hours solo
2 hours cross-country flight training
10 takeoffs and landings to a full stop
1 solo cross-country flight of at least 75 nautical miles total distance
with a full-stop landing at a minimum of two points and one segment of the
flight consisting of a straight-line distance of at least 25 nautical miles
between takeoff and landing locations.
3 hours flight test preparation
Pass the FAA written (knowledge) test.
Pass the FAA practical (flight) test.
Privileges and Restrictions
Light Sport pilots may:
Fly Light Sport qualified aircraft.
Fly during daylight hours in visual conditons.
Carry no more than one passenger.
Not fly passengers for compensation or hire.
Credit Sport Pilot flight time towards more advanced pilot ratings.
